I don't understand how anyone can place their child's health in the hands of others. I often get a request like "My son is DEADLY allergic to nuts and he can't have eggs or dairy. Can you make something for him?" Are you kidding me lady? Your child should be in a bubble. I am very careful at not cross contaminating but you don't know me and the facility is not nut free how are you so sure. Let's hope for the best? Get your EPI pens ready? Yikes!

Instead of going to a restaurant and expecting the kitchen to jump through hoops making special food, parents with allergy-infested children should stay home, do a little research and actually learn how to cook for the little bastards themselves. People can be such lazy, ignorant toolbags. Especially once they set foot in a restaurant.

Most restaurant kitchens are not designed to accomodate people with severe egg, dairy or nut allergies. We do our best to avoid cross-contamination (ServSafe, for example) but it is extremely irresponsible and possibly dangerous to assume we can just "make something" for someone with a life-threatening allergy. We're not an hermetically sealed institutional facility.

Allergies are a golden opportunity for people to learn how to cook healthy delicious things their kids can actually enjoy. If someone is determined to bring the kids to a restaurant, at least CALL AHEAD to see if we can accomodate them. Otherwise, stay the fuck home, learn how to chop a vegetable and do it yourself.
